There’s never a ✨ dull ✨ moment at Banter.
We’ve been onboarding 3️⃣ new team members that you’re yet to meet, taking our team headcount to 14 When I say that out loud, it equally freaks me out 😱 and makes me incredibly proud 😊. In 3.5 years, I’ve opened a business and employed 14 people, in a regional town.
We all LOVE❣️ what we do. We want to bring our expertise, our experience, and our care to businesses. We want to grow as humans, continue learning, and feel valued. We know our clients want these things too.
A mid-year reflection, with thanks 🙏, with gratitude, and with lots of very long days. But every day ends with a smile and awe. Banter peoples, you’re amazing. Banter clients, thanks for giving us that rewarding feeling every day. We can’t do what we do without you.

Apple’s iOS update: the stats on opt-ins for targeting
Not Aussie data, but a good indicator of behaviour, the stats are in on the impact of Apple’s iOS update restricting the automatic collection of data and relying on users to opt-in for advertising and 🎯 targeting purposes. When a user opens, downloads, or updates an app for the first time after they download the new iOS, they have to opt-in to letting that app track them.
Since the update rolled out at the end of April, only 4% of iOS users in the US let apps track them. As of April 2021, iOS held a 55.38% share of the mobile operating system market in Australia.
iOS users who never want to be tracked don’t need to reject apps individually — they can simply go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking, and toggle “Allow Apps to Request to Track” off. 🛑
According to this iOS Opt-in Tracker, Australia is currently embracing the opt-in with a 19.1% opt-in rate. One to watch! 👀 👀
LinkedIn Releases Boosted Posts
The second cousin in social media has finally caught up with consumer behaviour and has released the ability to boost posts on LinkedIn. Why boost? When you post an organic update to your company page and you can see it get some early traction, and you may want to capitalise on that, without having to create a new ad. That’s the 🗝️ to its success – give your most engaging or time-sensitive content a little boost to quickly expand your audience reach. That’s not a blanket approach to boost every post, you should save this for your BEST-PERFORMING or TIME-SENSITIVE content.
When you’re ready to go, you can pick from four objectives:
- Brand Awareness
- Video Views
- Engagement
- Website visits
You’ll then also be able to select your target audiences:
- Profile-based – Select target audience criteria from job seniorities, job functions, or company industries.
- Interests-based – Select target audience criteria from member groups.
- LinkedIn Audience template – Select a LinkedIn Audience template with pre-set targeting options.
Need help? We’ve got your back. Drop us a line and we can manage your LinkedIn sponsored activity for you.
Dirty Janes – Retail Haven | Rippling – Creating Waves
Combining 🛒 shopping and marketing = ❤️, and we had the chance to do just that for the most glorious of shopping venues, Dirty Janes in Bowral – a vintage/new emporium that’s also expanded into the Canberra market just over a year ago. As a local, it’s a go-to for me to a) clear my head and b) clear my wallet. It’s the thrill of the hunt, the surprise of what’s around every corner, and the joy of finding a unique piece of jewellery, furniture, lamps, records… 💎🛋️🎶🪑honestly, you’ll find EVERYTHING you could ever want from a range of hundreds of stallholders. No trip to Bowral or Canberra should be without a visit!
To be approached by this iconic family-owned destination engulfed us all with happiness. Together, we develop their marketing strategy, designed and delivered email campaigns, and engaged the staff with hands-on social media training.
The #shoplocal #shopsmall and #shopsustainable movement continue to gain momentum and consumers are becoming more conscious in their decisions. Follow these beautiful Insta feeds to find your perfect something-something and message them when you want to buy it, I promise you, if you delay, it’ll be gone in a 💫 flash 💫. @dirtyjanes_bowral and @dirtyjanes_canberra.

Helping businesses achieve their goals is the key driver for the work we do at Banter. When it comes to charities, we know that their goals align with ours and so winning a pitch to build a deliver an impactful website for fundraising floated our boat. Canteen, Starlight Children’s Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and Médecins Sans Frontières Australia are shaking up the NFP sector with the launch of Rippling. A not-for-profit social enterprise, Rippling aims to provide ethical, cost-efficient and sustainable fundraising and donor acquisition for the four organisations.
Our role in this meaningful collaboration was to take a beautiful brand and create an extraordinary website experience that was simple and clean. We managed the 📸 photography and ✍🏻 copywriting requirements, including the gathering of volunteers on-location, and all in record time.
We’re super proud of the results, and this quote from our client created waves of delight. 💕
Many thx Talia to you and all of your team – I don’t think the execution could have gone any better/smoother than it did. And everyone agrees the final product looks fantastic. 😀😀😀

Yes! When a community-led initiative makes the world of difference – a facemask that breaks down and grows into flowers 😷💐. This Dutch brand has embedded flower seeds into single-use rice paper masks in a bid to cut down on plastic pollution and give back to nature. Now, where are those daffodil bulb versions?

On the blog: What exactly makes a ‘brand’? It’s a good question and one we discuss often. Catch up with Fran, our Creative Director👩🎨, talking with The Fold Southern Highlands about the elements of a brand and why a brand is not just a logo. A 👀 sneak peak: A brand is a person’s gut feeling about a business. People establish this gut feeling from a set of cues blended together to paint a picture of a business.

This should at least make you 😂 laugh. When Microsoft releases an update to Outlook and the whole platform fails. I know that agile development is real, but seriously, when you release a new feature, testing it first is a really good tip.

Instagram is testing a new ‘Reshare’ sticker which is designed to highlight feed posts that are re-shared to Stories. Many brands post an update to the main feed and then give it a little kick by adding the same image as a Story as well. The problem with this is that most users don’t like this type of resharing as it just duplicates content and comes 🙄 ‘blah’. Back in January, we reported that Instagram started to stopping users from re-sharing feed posts to Stories entirely, and that caused a bit of a kerfuffle. This looks to be a compromise. Take note: 🗒️✍️ social users don’t want to see the same content across all their platforms and formats.
Robots teaching the humans, and for good reason
Technological frontrunners like South Korea 🇰🇷 aren’t immune to the digital gap between young and old, which has only widened as the pandemic increased our use of contactless technology. To narrow that divide, the Seoul Digital Foundation is employing robots 🤖🤖 to teach older adults to use KakaoTalk, one of South Korea’s most popular messaging apps.
Running custom software, 220 robots will teach 3,000 participants at senior centres throughout Seoul. Using spoken instructions, facial recognition, and gestures, the small humanoid robots explain how to message 🧒 grandchildren 🧒 or share photos with friends. While using advanced technology might seem counterintuitive, robots have a distinct advantage: unlike most humans, they’re endlessly patient and will happily repeat instructions as often as needed.
It’s clever, efficient, and meets the need of a society to progress. Well done South Korea 👏.
