What a 🌪️ whirlwind 🌪️ we’ve been through with Facebook and the Government Media Bargaining Code of late. Honestly, I think we’ve all had enough of it 😮, so I won’t feature it today. Just in case, if you’re after more updates, keep an 👀 on the ABC news.
For about 7️⃣ years now I’ve been saying the same thing over and over – don’t put all your 🥚🥚 in your Facebook basket. If you put all your data, your audiences and your only reach into the 👐 of Facebook, and they change the game, you’ll be left stranded. What happened recently with disappearing newsfeeds can easily happen again. The question is, will you be prepared this time? People WILL pay 💰 for what they value, keep that in mind. If you need help working out how to diversify your channels and how you speak to your audiences outside of Facebook (and Instagram), then drop us a line to arrange a catch-up to help. ☎️
Amazing Business Grants to help you right now
I’m becoming aware of more grants available to businesses and you need to know about these as they can help your business. Check these out and share them 📣📣📣 with others, there’s a lot of help out there and we need businesses to find out about them.
The Business Events Grants program will empower the business events sector which, due to COVID-19 😷, has seen the 100% cancellation of events contributing to a near 100% loss of revenue 📉 . This will support Australian businesses by providing grants between $10,000 and $250,000 and will cover up to 50% of costs incurred in participating at pre-approved B2B events as buyers or sellers during the 2021 calendar year.
NSW Tourism Product Development Fund is dishing out the big bucks 💰for regional tourism operators – this is so easy to get your hands on, get into it!
Stream 1 – Refresh and Renew Fund offering $10,000 grants to regional tourism operators to update their product or experience.
Stream 2 – Experience Enhancement Fund offering between $50,000 and $150,000 in matched funding to assist operators to upgrade existing accommodation to improve their ⭐ rating, upgrade business and leisure event venues and facilities, repurpose existing infrastructure to provide new facilities or experiences not currently available within the destination, or to create new tourism attractions or experiences.
Regional Business Event Development Fund up to $30,000 to create, attract and support business events for regional NSW, and to motivate business event owners to incorporate regional NSW in their plans.
Insta tests removing feed sharing to Stories
Instagram is now conducting a test that is 🛑 stopping 🛑 some users from sharing feed posts within their Stories. This means you can now share tweets in your IG Stories, but you can’t share Instagram posts, while you can also share IGTV previews, but not normal feed updates.
The only way that you’re going to see a person’s IG story in your top bar is if you follow them, and if you follow them, that means you’ll also see their regular posts within your feed as well. Annoying much? 😒 If you’ve attended our training sessions, we’ve been telling you NOT to post the same content to feed and Stories… because… a) boring and b) algorithm! Instagram wants you to create your own content, native content, for the platform. If you’re sharing TikTok 📹 videos, it will work against you. Insta wants original content, using their tools only.
To improve the Stories experience, Insta is reducing the reach of re-shared feed posts. We’ll let you know if and when this test for certain users is rolled out in any great length.
Swann Business & Taxation meets Jess Hunter Interior Design
We’re not travelling ✈️ for leisure like we used to, so here are two Banter clients that can help you plan out a ✨bright 2021.
Kristie Swann is the owner of Swann Business & Taxation, and for full disclosure, is Banter’s all-time 🦸♀️ superstar accountant. Kristie’s established business needed a few things – starting with a brand makeover to modernise her Swann 🦢 logo and a sophisticated, yet simple website to match her approach to business. I’m not afraid to say I don’t do numbers 🔢, I do marketing, but I have Kristie to do the numbers! Not just local, Kristie and her team manage every possible part of business and ⚖️ taxation needs near and far. We’re so happy to show off Kristie’s business because we trust her with getting everything right, time and time again.
Once you’ve saved some cashola 💱 with Kristie, you can put it towards a new home 🏡 interior design with Jess Hunter! Another Southern Highlands local, Jess’s interior designs can be seen in some of the most well-known properties and magazines, like Catalina Burradoo and the Surveyor General Inn at Berrima. Every one of Jess’s projects has an intrigue of admiration, and her style is impeccably perfect 💯. Our dream job at Banter was to create a website for Jess that brought these beautiful designs to the forefront. If you’re bored of your four walls and need to revamp your WFH nightmare or normal (whichever one suits your situation!), give Jess a buzz – but she’s in high demand, and is that any surprise with Jess winning the Best of Houzz Design and Best of Houzz Service Awards 2021? 🌟

Google’s Chrome is ditching the 3rd party cookie, 🍪 but before you celebrate your new-found privacy, do you know what it really means? For most people, the change will be invisible, but behind the scenes, Google is planning to put Chrome in control of some of the advertising process. To do this it plans to use browser-based machine learning to log your browsing history and lump people into groups alongside others with similar interests. Want to know what tech is tracking you and then block them? Install Ghostery. 👻 You’re welcome.
🇳🇿New Zealand🇳🇿 is cool, and funny
I’m sure I’m preaching to the converted, but New Zealand has one heck of a funny advertising culture🤪. There’s nothing to be bored of by our favourite neighbours, and the latest domestic travel ad just reinforces that sometimes I wish I could be a 🥝. Travelling Under the Social Influence is a brilliant look at pop culture and social behaviour, whilst exploring the diverse and gorgeous country 🤳🏻🧗⛷️🏂🏄🐑🏔️.
Their 2018 Get NZ On The Map campaign managed to feature the incredible Jacinda Ardern, and the follow-up ads 6 months later call on Ed Sheeran and Sir Peter Jackson. If you’re also a Lord of the Rings 🧙🏻♂️🧝🏻♀️ mega-fan like I am, then you’ll enjoy the re-run of the Air New Zealand Safety video again and again and again…
Catch you next time 😃
