What Greece Reminded Me About Marketing

In its heyday, Sarlitzer Palace in Lesvos attracted kings, queens and heads of state. This magnificent building and thermal baths are now a shell of its past life, after falling into State ownership and closing its doors in 1982. Lesvos is not a tourist island. After speaking with many locals and many generations, the mass migration exodus of the 1960s left an abandoned island. What they’ve failed to do was marketing. No-one knows of this building anymore, its glory and history, right on the waterfront, with curative baths. You can’t just build it and they will come. Famous or new-born, you need to market your business if you want it to successfully continue. Simples. Now who has a cool $10m to take on a restoration tourism project with me?

A Penthouse Designed for Instagram Influencers

I couldn’t decide if this story should be for ‘social media’ or for ‘something cool’; and here we are. Built by a marketing agency and designed by furniture company Wayfair, the $15k monthly rent for this penthouse is booked by influencers in the perfectly-insta-lifestyle-shoot-location. No-one lives in this apartment. Decked out in Millennial Pink, Wayfair’s involvement is for free in exchange for all the social media impressions that the space generates, even paying influencers to promote products as well as providing furniture. As influencer marketing continues to skyrocket, this is a sign of the times and one I’m very interested to watch unfold, or perhaps, fold.

Why We Build WordPress sites

Web development in today’s world doesn’t have to be complex or expensive. Banter chooses to only build WordPress sites for a number of reasons, but the primary one is this: too many clients have approached me because they have been locked out of their websites by developers, or have been overcharged dramatically for what should have been an inexpensive solution based on needs.

WordPress is tops. My blog this month focuses on the reasons that we prefer WordPress as a development solution, and why more than 30% of all websites are built using this dynamic and flexible platform.

3DAnatomica: mind-blowing 3D technology

I was fortunate enough to meet Greg from 3DA at a local Herd meeting one Friday night. With my healthcare experience, I could see the enormous opportunity that 3DA offers in their technology of the medically accurate anatomy of the human body. The interactive content model is quite truly ground-breaking. To bring this to life for a range of audiences, Banter redeveloped the website to showcase how the models can be used for medical presentations, health practitioners, clinicians, pharmaceutical and educational institutions.

Check out the interactive models by using your mouse or finger pinch on smartphones to have a play around. Alongside the website, we designed the new logo and branding, business stationery and marketing collateral for the recent Abbotsleigh Technology Conference.

Recent chats and upcoming stuff

Happy 1st Birthday to us: In the midst of holidaying, Banter turned 1! We really do have an incredible team of capable and intelligent humans running your projects. These amazing people allowed me a 3 week break from the daily grind, never needing an emergency call with me. I’m so proud of what we have done together in a short 12 months. Hip hip hooray!

Universal Media Co: The 35 year old niche publishing group called on Banter to facilitate up-skilling their sales teams on integrating digital solutions into their traditional publishing offerings. The half day inhouse session delivered tangible content solutions for advertiser briefs, ensuring the Universal Media teams are offering the latest in digital, social and print advertising opportunities for their specific categories across cars & bikes, craft, health, home & outdoor, lifestyle and pets. If you’re needing some 1:1 attention, customised for you and your business, drop me a line.

Fancy Freaking Yourself Out?

If you love an experience, a chill down your spine and a great story to tell, you might need A Midnight Visit. This interactive theatrical experience happens inside a derelict warehouse, where the real and fictitious worlds, characters, obsessions and personal demons of American writer Edgar Allan Poe collide. It’s a choose your own adventure of next level proportions. Go freak yourself out, you’ll love it.

Until next time 😊
